Who is the Wessex Walker?

Hello. I’m in my 70’s and live in Wiltshire, England. I used to run to keep-fit, but being on the heavy side this is no longer good for my knees. The gym’s not for me, and I’m poor at golf, tennis and swimming. However, I want to keep fit into my old age, and so I’ve chosen walking (instead of cycling) and come up with something I’m calling “Walking My Way” which is now working for me. This blog is an enjoyable way for me to log my progress and if it points the way for you to try something similar, I could not be more pleased. WMW addresses fitness, well-being and the environment, also it promotes public transport and country pubs. It is certainly easier to do once you retire, I wish I had started then.

WMW Pub Guide

Ideally all my walks end at the pub. Somewhere to warm-up or cool down, rest, drink and eat, before heading home from the nearby bus-stop or railway station. It’s a great inducement for pushing the pace over the final few miles rather than just hanging on. Modern life-styles mean that country pubs are closing everyday, I thought I’d celebrate those I visit by compiling a list with a bit of info attached.
